WHAT’S YOUR ONE THING

Working with entrepreneurs, I regularly find them overwhelmed by all the emails hitting their inboxes, things piling up on their todo lists and action items coming out of meetings. There are just not enough hours in the day to get all the stuff done you think you ought to get done.

This can become enough of a problem that it will affect your sanity and damage your company's potential for success as you find yourself in constant firefighting mode.

When I work with entrepreneurs encountering this problem I typically ask them a single question: What is the one most important thing you can do now, giving you the biggest impact?

It’s the Pareto principle (the 80/20 rule) used on your personal situation. I consistently find that in any situation I ever found myself in, there is a limited set of things which actually matter and many more which don’t (but eat up my time).

Ruthlessly applying this question (and even going deeper by asking yourself what the most important thing in the most important things you identified is) and being okay with knowing that you can’t do everything, answer every email or follow up on every action item, is likely your best option to get yourself to becoming a GyShiDo-San!
