A little while ago we talked about how to craft a proper mission statement for your organization (and why this is important) in eight words or less; in the form of verb — target — outcome.

Recently I had the great pleasure of working with a bunch of amazing young entrepreneurs. We worked through their startup challenges — and inevitably we also hit on their personal struggles as entrepreneurs (of which there are many — entrepreneurship is hard).

I strongly believe you need to have a strong understanding of who you are and why you do what you’re doing if you want to stay sane on your entrepreneurial journey. Otherwise you will be thrown around like a small boat on rough waters.

Figure out your personal mission statement. What’s truly important to you? What really gets you out of bed in the morning? What will always be true about yourself?

Eight words or less. Verb — Target — Outcome.

Build What Matters.
