It is not complicated.

If you know me, you know that I have an (oftentimes painfully) low tolerance for bullshit. I can’t stand people talking a great game without delivering, making things more complicated than they are or weaponizing language to make themselves sound smarter.

I mean – I get it: It is a competitive world out there. We need to differentiate ourselves. If we want to be successful, we need to stand out.

Which is the reason why we disrupt, strategize, accelerate and use every other term from our lovely bullshit bingo card.

Here is a radical and heretical piece of advice: Stand out by being the one person who doesn’t give in to the temptation of making things sound complicated but instead use the easiest, cleanest language you can find. Try it; you will see that you are one of the few people where others will understand what they are saying. You will also find that it is hard; as in “super hard.” Trust me – I am going through this with our little company. You can’t hide behind some made-up word (those are the worst by the way – remember: if it’s not in a reputable dictionary, it is not a word!) but have to express the essence of what you are doing. Which is an incredibly powerful way to first become clear about what it is you are doing.

I hear way too many entrepreneurs pitch stuff which I don’t understand – and I am sure, they don’t understand either. For us, it is work in progress – I am confident that we will get there (and we are not there yet, that is for sure).

Give it a try: Cut the BS and tell it like it is. You will be surprised how refreshing this is – and how many people will react positively.
