The Need to Produce
Most of us are insanely busy these days. We run from meeting to meeting, take a couple quick calls in-between, constantly check our email and social media feeds and try to squeeze in time to get some heads-down work done.
For many of us this results not only in a constant state of busyness, heightened stress levels (which we love to brush off) and sadly pretty mediocre outcomes. In the craziness of our days (and often nights), we forget to do the one thing which actually matters: Produce.
If you don’t produce, you won’t thrive — no matter how skilled or talented you are.
Producing, which the dictionary defines as “make or manufacture from components or raw materials / create or form (something) as part of a physical, biological, or chemical process / make (something) using creative or mental skills” is the one thing which determines our success in a binary manner: If you produce you have a shot at being successful. If you end up not producing (often because you’re too busy with being busy), you don’t even get your ticket for the ride.
As you’re looking at the weeks ahead — ask yourself if each of the items on your todo list and the blocks of time on your calendar lead to you producing or keeping you just busy.
Make the radical choice of focussing your efforts solely on producing tangible outcomes for whatever it is you want to do in the world. It’s the only way to thrive.
