GoPro’s CEO recently said, after his company had to deal with some false accusations which send their stock price tanking:
“We can’t be responsible for the whims of the market. We have no control over that. We do have control over following through on what we say we’re going to do, and whenever possible exceeding expectations.”
As much as this is true for publicly traded companies, the sentiment is spot on for all of us. We typically can’t control what is happening around us, but we sure as hell can control our own actions. And nothing says “we care” more than following through on your word and continuously pushing to boundaries of what other’s expect of us.
Or as Mark Twain said:
“Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest.”
